Places To Go and See In The Mary Valley
Kenilworth - named after Sir Walter Scott's novel of the same name. The aboriginal name for the Kenilworth area was Hinka Booma.
Visit the Historical Museum and go back in time to the days of the pioneers.
Pop in to the Cheese Making Factory where you can sample their delicious range of cheeses and creamy
yoghurts, buy your favourite at the factory shop. Talking of cheese visit Coolabine Farmstead
situated in the Obi Obi Valley which produces boutique goat cheese, specialising in Feta, Curd and Caprice cheeses, open for tasting
and farmgate sales.
Local wine to complement the taste of cheese? Kenilworth Bluff Wines was established in
1994, currently planted with vines of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Semillion and Chardonnay grapes
and is open for tasting and sales.
Imbil - during the 1880's Imbil Station provided important services (store, butchery and post office)
for the surrounding population and was a staging post for Cobb and Co coaches enroute to the Gympie goldfields.
The indigenous inhabitants of Imbil and Yabba Creek were the Baiambora. Watch the arrival of the Gympie Rattler a restored 1923 steam train www.thevalleyrattler.com from the balcony of the
historic Railway Hotel whilst you enjoy a buffet lunch.
Ride On Mary - Kayak the Mary River, Yabba Creek or Lake Borumba. Cycle through the scenic Mary Valley www.imbilkayakandbike.com
Wander the Imbil Country Markets on the Village Green, or browse in the local shops. Enjoy refreshments at one of the town's cafes.
Spend a day at Borumba Dam, fishing, water skiing, kayaking (www.imbilkayakandbike.com) jet skiing and recreational boating are allowed on the lake.
Further afield you can visit the towns of Maleny and Montville or have a day at the famous Eumundi Markets, go a bit further
and enjoy the many sights at Noosa. What about a trip to the heritage town of Gympie. Try your luck at panning gold at the Gold Mining and Historical Museum. Drive to Tin Can Bay and either feed
the dolphins or take a ferry cruise. Take a detour to Rainbow Beach and see the coloured sands or take a horseback ride
along the beach.
